PHYSIOTHERAPY UNIT

 

HEAD OF UNIT

Pn Ong Hai Choo (U44)

INTRODUCTION
Physiotherapy Unit is located in the Rehabilitation Department headed by a senior physiotherapist –Grade U41. Other staff include one physiotherapist-U38, one physiotherapist-U36, four physiotherapists-U32, 10 physiotherapists-U29, one clerk -PT P/O17, one Pembantu Perawatan Kesihatan -U12 and two Pembantu Perawatan Kesihatan -U3. Health Attendant Care Assistants


The main function of this unit is to provide physiotherapy services to patients referred by Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah specialist clinics, other government / private hospitals and health clinics. The services are also provided for referred inpatients in Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah and Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah Cawangan Darul Aman.

To provide excellent rehabilitation services based on the Ministry of Health corporate culture which focuses on continuous quality improvement.

VISION
To provide rehabilitation services through quality, effective, proactive and professional staff equipped with the latest equipment and technology in a condusive and safe environment, striving continuously to achieve clients’ full satisfaction.

OBJECTIVE
To provide patients with effective, safe physiotherapy service together with health education that will promote self independence.

CLIENT CHARTER
1. Registration time is between 10–30 minutes
2. Physiotherapy treatment is 15 to 60 minutes based on patient’s condition
3. Quality and appropriate treatment based on patient’s condition

4. Patients’ privacy will be given utmost importance during treatment
5. Client’s responsibility:
    • comply to fixed appointment
    • comply to procedure

7. Intensive Care & High Dependency Care Rehabilitation Unit (physiotherapy on call duty is provided

    during public holidays)

PHYSIOTHERAPY STUDENT EDUCATION CENTRE
1. Physiotherapy students from KSKB, UKM, UiTM, AIMST, MAHSA
2. Reference centre for other medical students. e.g. Post Basic Nurse, Student Nurse and Medical

    Student.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Sub-Specialisation for:
1. Women’s Health – For various types of incontinence, uterus asicdic (1st degree).
2. Lymphoedema Therapy – For Lymphedema cases after Mastectomy or TAHBSO.
3. Vestibular Rehabilitation – For patient with Vertigo and Disequilibrium.
4. Phototherapy – For certain skin cases such as Psoriasis and Vitiligo.
5. Hydrotherapy – For cases such as Special Needs Children, Arthritis involving Multiple Joints, Weakness of Limbs and Sports Injury.

CURRENT ACTIVITY
NIA and KPI for physiotherapy services are monitored monthly. Patient Satisfaction Survey is carried out twice a year and a survey on Client Charter is carried out annually. The unit is actively involved in Quality Initiative Programme and has managed two innovation projects, two projects for the KIK (Creative and Innovative Group) and two projects for Clinical Audit.

 
The Kinetic Group representing the unit has participated in various Quality conventions for the health departments and emerged as KIK Champion (Technical Category) at the Kedah state level. The group represented the state during the North Zone KIK Convention in July 2011.

The Physiotherapy Unit conducts aerobic exercise sessions every Thursday afternoon at 3.45pm at the Rehabilitation Lobby. Aerobic Exercise Demonstration for various phases of cardiac rehabilitation was carried out during the launching of the World Heart Day 2010 at the main lobby. This was truly an eye opener for the enthusiastic public.

A programme to promote fitness and healthy lifestyle through physical activities was carried out via poster presentation during the World Heart Day 2010. The “Health Problem Awareness Campaign Amongst Children” was held on 21st June 2011.

The Physiotherapy Clinical Audit Team represented Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in posters exhibition during the 1st Physiotherapy Conference held from 11 – 13 July 2011, in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.
