DERMATOLOGY DEPARTMENT

MISSION
To provide the best Dermatological services to the public by having staff with the highest level of proficiency, integrity and professionalism

VISION
To serve the community as the centre of excellence by providing expertise in dermatological care through which the Department is recognized as the best referral centre for the region.

OBJECTIVE
To provide quality dermatological services to the people and emphasizing on clients’ satisfaction.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
1. To ensure that Leprosy defaulter rate is not more than 10%
2. To ensure that skin biopsy infection rate is not more than 2 %
3. To ensure that at least 80% of the appointment given to new cases are within 2 weeks
4. To ensure that the 90 minute waiting time to see doctors in the department is given to at least 80% of the patient


CLIENT CHARTER

We pledge to minimise the waiting time for patients and we will strive to maximise patients’ satisfaction by utilising the latest in work and treatment procedures using the available equipment.

Registration : 10 minutes

Waiting time for treatment: less than 60 minutes

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE
The department comprises of 12 staff, 1 Dermatologist, 4 medical officers, 4 staff nurses, 1 Asst Medical Officer and 2 PPK.

SERVICES/ACTIVITIES

A. Out Patient – Dermatological cases including Leprosy cases, STD, Filiariasis AND Minor procedures eg Patch Test, Cryotherapy, electrocautery, chemocautery, phototherapy, skin biopsy, ionthophoresis ,Slit Skin Smear and parring.

B. In Patient - Dermatological emergency cases and referral from other departments

C. Monthly visits to Peripheral Clinics in Kedah (H. Kulim, H. Sg Petani, H.Yan ,H.Sik, H.Baling, H.Langkawi, H. K.Nerang, H.Jitra, KK Pendang)

D. Training and Courses.The department holds at least:
• 2 – 3 short courses per year catering for doctors and Paramedics in the State of Kedah
• 2 CME per year for House officer in HSB
• Monthly CME in the department
• Training/teaching of both Post Graduate and Under Graduate students

E. Health Education Programme
• Radio Talk
• ‘Ceramah’ to school children and the public
• World Leprosy Day Campaign
• World Psoriasis Day Campaign

OTHER ACTIVITIES

·         Conduct Dermatological courses for all MO's and Medical Assistants working in the peripheral clinics in Kedah.

·         Conduct CME for all medical and paramedics of HSB.

·         Counselling for HIV, Proriasis and Atopic eczema and other patients.

·         Hospital specific approach: Patient satisfaction study from 2003 to 2005 - 98% achieved.
