OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY UNIT

INTRODUCTION
The main function of Occupational Therapy Unit is to retrain people who have physical, mental and social difficulties so that they can be independent in their daily lives and in society. Patients who receive these services include orthopedic cases, medical, neurological, children with special needs (Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, etc) and related psychiatric cases (Neurosis, Psychosis, Psycho Somatic, Mental Subnormal)

VISION

To provide high quality services for all clients to ensure their rights are fully met.

MISSION

To strive and be committed to provide quality rehabilitation services.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

To promote, restore and maintain the functionality of an individual’s physical and/or psychosocial disabilities using selected scientifically-proven activities progressively and continuously.


SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

1. Provide occupational therapy treatment within 3 working days for referred outpatients

     - Provide occupational therapy treatment within 24 working hours for referred patients
      - Ensure equipment and environment are safe, clean and conducive at all time
      - Promote character development through continuous education among members/staff

CLIENT CHARTER
1. Duel waiting time to receive treatment within 10 minutes
2. Minimum treatment of 30 minutes for each session
3. Each client will be given a clear explanation of the programme
4. Practice corporate culture during treatment
5. Treatment provided based on appointment (outpatient)

SERVICES PROVIDED
Physical discipline
For physical discipline, it covers three areas:


AREA SPECIALIZATION MEDICAL

Outpatient Inpatient ORTHOPAEDIC, Outpatient Inpatient BURN, Outpatient Inpatient Among the services provided for Physical disciplines are:
1.Evaluation in terms of independence in daily life activities.
2.Evaluation of the functional aspects of the hands.
3.Functional assessment of cognitive aspects in terms of mental and perceptual.
4.Evaluation of the functional aspects of driving.
5.Assessment in terms of ability to work.
6.Activities of daily life training program .
7.Splint for the upper and lower body.
8.Provision of pressure garment.
9. Relaxation therapy program.
10.Prescription and provision of aids and adaptation equipment.
11. Education program for patients and caregivers.

Discipline of Paediatrics
For pediatric disciplines, it covers three specialization:
1. Learning Peads
2. Physical Peads
3. Inpatient Peads

Among the services provided for discipline of peadiatrics are:
1.Evaluation of child development
2.Sensory Integration
3.Play therapy
4.Pre-school skills training programme
5.Provide tools and support aids – splint
6.Activities of daily living training programme
7.Stimulation programme which is ‘Sucking’ and ‘Swallowing’
8.Parent/ Family Education/ Parenting Skills
9.Home care programme
10.School-based programme

Discipline of Psychiatry
For the discipline of Psychiatry, it includes three specializations, namely:
1.Outpatient (Day Care)
2.Inpatient
3.Supported Employment


Among the services provided for the discipline of Psychiatry are:
1.Evaluation in terms of daily life activities as well as domestic skills
2. Physical and mental functional assessment
3. Activities of daily living training programme
4. Domestic training programme
5. Job skills training programme
6. Social Skills training programme
7. Group training programme (Art and Creative Therapy)
8. Leisure and recreation programme
9. Relaxation therapy programme
10. Patient and family education
